Alan was kind enough to invite Jeff and I along on his weekly trip into Edinburgh to meet up with some of his chums for lunch today. We took the #41 bus into town and picked up Hamish More along the way. It was a bit of a drizzly day (not too bad though) and our final stop was moved around the corner due to construction for the new tram system. We had lunch today at Escargot Bleu, a very small French restaurant. There we met up with John Mackay and a bit later, Ron Sutherland. John was the equivalent of the U.S. Postmaster General for all of Scotland (and a Balvenie fan), Ron was one of the premiere architects in Scotland, and Hamish was at one time one of the top cricket and rugby players for Scotland (Hamish scored 40 centuries, which is 100 or more runs at bat. There are only two players with higher stats than that and the next one has 41). We had an excellent lunch, excellent wine and conversation with all.
After lunch we moved across the street to a French wine bar (I have no idea what the name is, and at this point in the afternoon it really didn't matter) where we had one more pint before heading home. I noticed off in the corner, trying to hide behind their menus was Gin and Annette. Since they were there I introduced Gin to John and Hamish and we had them take a photo of "the Lads" for us.....
